Villa Plays To The Water Views In The Stockholm Archipelago

Tunafjärden is a peaceful bay in the Stockholm archipelago. In the summer, boats line the docks that spill off the narrow lots of waterside properties. In winter, a skim of ice hardens to create an unbounded backyard skating rink.

The multiple islands and meandering waterways mean there’s an ample supply of waterfront homes and places to tie up. It’s not uncommon for residents of Stockholm to keep their boats at marinas in Österskär, about 35 minutes from the Swedish capital.

Taking in views of the water and the setting sun is a two-story villa built in 1989 and refurbished in 2017. Set on a rise, the south-facing home overlooks a long lawn-covered yard that contains a guesthouse and, beyond it, a jetty along the bay. Decks off both the main and guesthouses expand the living space outdoors.

The ground floor of the main house has an open-plan living area with large windows facing the water, a kitchen-dining area, wine cellar and bathroom. Three bedrooms, a walk-in closet and another bathroom are on the second level.

Details include wooden doors, glass backsplash tile and a corner kiva fireplace.

The 284 square meters (or more than 3,050 square feet) of living space contains a total of four bedrooms. There’s also a two-car garage.
